Fox Superflow Mt Cotton: Fast Laps, Big Vibes
A new year! Well, we are well n’ truly into it now aren’t we.
Embarking on my second year as an MTB coach and for me personally a change in race discipline. The last race I competed in was a local XCO race in February 2024 before I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr Virus. But this post isn’t about me. It’s about the terrific juniors who I coach, alongside some other fantastic coaches at Ride Technics.
The Ride Technics enduro squad took on Mt Cotton Rocky Trail Entertainment Fox Superflow on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Originally what was suppose to be the second race of the year at the Rocky Trail Entertainment Fox Superflow it turned into the first due to the cyclone that hit Brisbane and the Gold Coast, suspending the first race at Nerang on the Gold Coast until September this year.
Friday afternoon saw the schools comp kick off with local BNE schools taking to the trails. Some of the juniors competing in multiple school year categories, and both male and female categories too. These boys and girls took to the trails securing some incredible results with many podiums and quite a few wins solidifying the standard of exceptional skills, experience and fitness which saw risen confidence in all of them.
Now onto the weekend!
While the main crew all competed on Sunday we still had some awesome Ride Technics juniors who attend our school term program race on the Saturday putting together some awesome race times and results. When I first began coaching, those riders were a part of the groups I took and since then we’ve moved onto different groups. Those kids are now under the guidance of some other fantastic coaches at Ride Technics. It was awesome to see their skills and confidence elevate putting together race runs they are proud of.
Moving onto Sunday!
What an awesome day of racing, filled with smiles, excitement and confidence all around while being witness to the complete domination by the Ride Technics crew. Me, already scheduled to be there in supporting the groms for a full day of racing, I decided to enter myself. Can’t let them have all the fun! It was also nice to be back at the local events supporting grassroots racing and catching up with people I haven’t seen in quite a while. On the boys side, we saw a clean sweep in two categories finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Furthermore, to continued success with our older boys who also secured podiums. On the girls side we had a 2nd place finish. We cannot forget some of the parents of these talented groms who also finished on the podium. Too, more results came from another RT coach finishing second and myself finishing in 1st place. Simultaneously, the entire crew finished on the podium in every single category that we entered.
I am incredibly proud of every RT junior who raced across the weekend. As you may have read on my bio or watched on my documentary my mission is simple: To give back, to help as many as I can. To help them become the people who have self-belief. To inspire them. I know I’m out there trying to do just that but they really inspire me not just with their riding but the manners and the respect to not just other RT riders but to all others as well. It’s refreshing! It’s about more than just results. Its about attitude, building confidence, support, growth and individuality; not riding or racing against but who are you riding or racing for?
